From Lagos to Nicosia in 90 Days — A Step-by-Step Cyprus Student Visa Timeline

When students ask “how fast can this realistically happen?” the honest answer for Cyprus is 90 days — assuming your documents are ready and you start working backwards from a real intake date.

Here is the week-by-week plan we run with our clients.

Week 1–2 — Consultation, eligibility, programme shortlist

You book a free consultation. We score your profile, agree on a target programme and institution in Nicosia, and lock the intake (September or January). You leave with a written checklist of every document you need to gather.

Deliverables by end of week 2: Programme chosen, application initiated.

Week 3–4 — Documents and admission application

You gather: passport, transcripts, certificates, sponsor’s bank statements (3–6 months), birth certificate, police clearance, medical report. We start the institutional application.

Deliverables by end of week 4: Application submitted to Ledra College or your chosen Nicosia-based institution.

Week 5–6 — Admission letter, tuition deposit, visa file

The institution issues the admission letter. You pay the tuition deposit. We assemble the full visa application file — sponsor letter, SOP, financial proofs.

Deliverables by end of week 6: Admission letter in hand, visa file complete.

Week 7–8 — Embassy submission

We submit your visa application at the Cyprus High Commission in Abuja. You attend the biometric appointment. Standard processing is 3–6 weeks.

Deliverables by end of week 8: Application logged with the embassy.

Week 9–11 — Processing window

The embassy reviews your file. We track and respond to any requests. You start arranging flights, accommodation in Nicosia, and travel money.

Deliverables by end of week 11: Visa decision issued.

Week 12 — Travel & arrival

You fly into Larnaca International Airport (the closest to Nicosia — about 45 minutes by road). Our partner picks you up and drives you into the capital. We help with the first-week practicalities: SIM card, bank account, and residence permit registration at the Civil Registry in Nicosia.

Deliverables by end of week 12: You are physically in Nicosia, registered, with your residence permit application filed.

What can speed it up

  • Having your IELTS already booked (or done) before week 1
  • A sponsor whose bank statements are already strong and 6+ months old
  • Police clearance applied for in week 1 (it takes 2–4 weeks itself)

What slows it down

  • Late or missing documents (most common)
  • IELTS score below the target (re-sit + wait period)
  • Embassy backlog around peak intake months (June–August)

90 days is realistic but not automatic. We have done it many times. Our Nicosia students — nursing, law, computer science, medicine — all walked this exact path. You will recognise some of them in our video testimonials.
